Last night, I pulled my hair into a ponytail and put in six flexirods. The curls were soooo cute when I first took them out, but by the time I’d gotten to work, they’d all fallen. Guess I’m going to have to use something to set them with. I’m almost certain plain water will work. I’ma try that tonight. When I got home, I took some pics and was feeling rather creative so I came up with this collage to showcase my plain-jane pony.

Then I got to wondering how I could go about making my hair look fuller. I came up with the idea to make three layers of ponytails, on sitting right above the other. I think I succeeded. I really like it. I think if I could figure out a way to make the curls hold, this would be a wonderful dressy do.

My triple Pony. Three ponytails layered one on top of the other to create more fullness. I think it worked.

Clairol's Texture and Tones Cocoa Brown. I'm really lovin' this color. Finally a shade that I'm totally happy with so it's definitely a keeper.
Six months after my last attempt to cover my gray with some color, I finally got around to touching up my roots. Only this time, I can’t exactly call it my roots can I when I had more than 2+ inches of new growth.
I waited so long for a couple of reasons. One, I’m lazy. It’s one of the main reasons it took me so long to make up my mind to FINALLY color my hair ealier this year. I simply wasn’t looking forward to the maintenance of touching up my roots on a regular basis. When you color your hair and the color is drastically different than your own, you’ve got some major upkeep on your hands every six weeks or so…just like a dang relaxer. In my case, it’s not so much that I was looking for a drastic change, but I hadn’t a clue about trying to match my natural hair color to something in a bottle. To top that all off, my primary purpose was and is to cover my scattered gray hair.
Both attempts failed miserably.
The first time, I tried, it just didn’t occur to me to check to see if it was made to specifically to cover gray. It wasn’t so it didn’t. Then to top it all off, for reasons I won’t get into right now, I ened up with a color that I wasn’t particulalry fond of. It was loud and brassy and just not me at all. So six weeks later I tried to correct it. I liked it better but it still wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, and it still didn’t really color my gray. So that leads me to the SECOND reason I didn’t get around to touching up my color on a regular basis…I just didn’t know what color I should try.
So off and on over the past six months, I kept checking various beauty supply stores and other places looking for a color that I thought I’d like. I finally settled on Clairol’s Texture and Tones cocoa brown. What’s interesting about this choice is that it’s rather nondescript looking on the box. Nothing daring about it all. But I figured it would tone down my current color AND cover my gray.
I did the deed last night and I’m sooooooo happy to say I LOVE IT! Despite the fact that it’s a deeper, darker brown, I still have some highlights peeking thought from the older color, which I LUV so it’s not as flat as it looks on the box. This color is definitely a keeper. Now I just hope I can bring myself to touch up my roots on the regular to keep it looking fresh and on point.
Time will tell. In the meantime, I did some playing around and took some pics in a few styles and angles using different accesories to get a good look at my color.
I really, really like it. Ah, I think I said that already.

Should be BSL again by March 2009
Merry Christmas everyone!
Earlier this year, I started a BSL challenge on Nappturality cause I wanted some company on my quest to see my hair reach that lengh…a length that I’ve never, ever seen on my head before. I didn’t even know if I could get there but I wanted to try. Well honestly, I remember when my goal was just to see my hair 14 inches long and then, one day I had 14 inches of hair. But after that, it seemed that BSL was proving to be equally elusive, so I started the challenge.
Well, I made it, but my ends were so raggedy that I became desperate for a really, good hair cut to not only get rid of my ratty ends, but to get rid of my layers as well. So in October I did it. As hard as it was, I chopped off my lower layer and so bye-bye BSL.
So a couple of months later, here’s where I am, pretty much between APL and BSL. If all goes as planned, I should be back at BSL by March of 2009. I’ll enjoy my hair at that length until June, and I’ll do one final chop to get rid of my last layer, which will even me up all the way around. Since my last layer is currently, between shoulder length and APL, by the time I chop again, I should be close enough that I should have no problem getting all my hair to BSL by late next year.
Wooohoo!

Well my twists are getting really fuzzy and they’re really stretched out and looking kinda stringy so tonight I decided to see what a high pony might look like. Since my hair accessories are pink, I just had to go get my trusty pink turtleneck out again to model this do. I’m calling it my Twisted Apple Pony. As I was shaping it up and securing it with my large jeweled side come, it started reminding me of an apple. I stuck a jeweled hair pin right where the stem of the apple would be.

I think this is really cute so I’m going to wear it to work tomorrow (well later today since it’s almost 1 a.m.) and on Christmas day with some different accessories.

Did some more experimenting over the weekend. Now that my hair is almost apl all over, my styling options have really increased. Quite simply, I’m really loving this length, and I’m really having a ball playing with my hair.
Since I was growing tired of my signature do and even all the variations of my herringbone bun and herringbone ponytail, I decided to take them down and do some two strand twists in the front instead.
I left a little of the flat twists along my hairline, an idea somewhat inspired by Roshini at Roshini.net. It turned out quite well because it works around my pitifully uneven hairline and if I don’t do something to camouflageit, I’ll end up with a bunch of raggedy twists framing my face. It worked and for the most part I like the end result, but If I were to deliberately try and recreate this style from scratch next time, I’d part my hair a little differently. But any way, since my hair line is so short, it still robs the twists framing my face of much needed volume. As a result, they tend to be very whispy at the ends and become frizzy very easily. So I came up with the idea to set them my whole head on six 7/8 inch flexirods to see if they would give me an attractive curl AND hide my frizzy ends.

Well I left them in for maybe an hour and took them out to see if I’d like it. I did so I took some pics. So the one at the top was the end result of that very short experiment and here are some additional veiws.
So I thought that went very well and I wondered what my hair would look like if I kept them in over night. So I decided to put six of these bad boys in and sleep in them. Can you say “Dang…NOT COMFORTABLE.” I must be getting too hold to sacrifice sleep for beatuy cause after trying to deal with these things over night, I wasn’t

sure the end result was worth it. I just kept waking up and trying to readjust these things and/or find a more comfortable way to sleep. In the morning, I took them out and hmmm… I wasn’t really crazy about it, but I figured I could work with it.
And so work with it I did. No matter what, I usually end up pulling my hair off my face. For some reason, I think I just look better that way. I left one side down and pulled the other one back, securing it with a side comb. But by the end of the day, my ends got really, really frizzy so I started wondering what I could do with it to salvage this do.

Now I really liked this!!!
Playing around with it a little bit, I wonderred what it would look like if I pulled it all away from my face. So I took some of the twists and gathered them together and secured it in the back with my decorative side comb. The two-strand twists beneath the flat twists gave me some wonderful volume that gave me a kinda poof in the top. Ha! I loved it. Plus I thought it looked kinda sexy. And believe it or not, i’m kinda digging that patch of gray hair I got up front. The back twists were holding up just fine. This do is definitely a keeper. In fact I’m wearing it at work right now… Yeah, yeah… I’m actually writing this post at work lol!
